My name is Taka Moro. I am a professional Jazz guitarist and luthier. I was born and raised in Japan. My ancestors were woodworkers of Shinto Temples.
I started playing the guitar at the age of 10. I studied Jazz at the school in Tokyo for two years.
At the age of 20, speaking almost no English, I moved to New Orleans to learn from the best and started playing gigs.
In 2002, I got my first job as a luthier working for Victor Baker in Philadelphia.
In 2004, I moved to Houston and worked for Marchione Guitars for 11 years.
I have been on my own making guitars since 2015.
While I learned from the best, my guitars have advantages for two reasons:
First, I am not just a luthier, I am also a Jazz professional. I combine my knowledge of both in making every decisions from woods to the pickups to the things you cannot see.
Second, I am a perfectionist. As you might expect of someone whose family was responsible for generations for making and repairing shrines in Japan.
I hope you will like my guitars.
